Help

How can we help?

Everything you need to get set up, plus a plain-English tour of the moving parts. Stuck anyway? support@knowstash.ai. a human reads every message.

Getting started

  1. Create your account at knowstash.ai/signup: a name, an email, a password. (You'll also be able to sign in with Google afterwards.)
  2. Confirm your email. We send a link; clicking it unlocks your account and drops your free starting credits into the balance.
  3. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. One click, details below.
  4. Open any YouTube video. The KnowStash panel appears beside the player. Stash the video, ask for a note, watch it stream in.

Prefer a bigger screen? Everything also lives in the companion web app. Same account, same library.

Install the extension

KnowStash is on the Chrome Web Store. one click to add it, and it works in Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Arc. Pin it to your toolbar (the puzzle-piece icon), then open any YouTube video and the panel appears beside the player. Our install page has the button and the quick first-run steps.

Updates install automatically from the Chrome Web Store. There's nothing to re-download. Your notes and library live in your KnowStash account, so updating the extension never touches your data.

Core concepts

Stash
Fetching and indexing a video so notes can be written from it. One click; costs about 1 credit per hour of video, prorated. Stashed once and kept forever. What's already stashed is never charged again, however often you use it.
Note
An AI-written markdown document made from one or more videos. Notes are versioned: updating one with new material grows the same document instead of scattering copies.
Ask
The chat box. Tell it what you want to know about a video, in your own words or with a stored prompt, and the note streams in live. You can scope it to specific chapters.
Library
Everything you've stashed and written, searchable and filterable, on both surfaces.
Collections
Named buckets for videos and notes. An item can live in many collections; removing it from one never deletes the item.
Queues
A working list of videos to process together: stash them all, write one note per video, or synthesize a single note across the lot.
Monitors
A queue that watches YouTube for you: new uploads from a search, channel, or playlist get pulled in and processed automatically. Five-minute guide below.
Prompts
Saved instructions you use often (“extract every concrete recommendation”). Pick one from the composer instead of retyping it.
Model presets
standard and premium: two levels of note-writing horsepower, chosen per note. Same features on both; only depth and price change.
Credits
The usage meter: 1 credit = one hour of video, spent in fractions per action, with the price shown before you run anything. Every subscription prices that hour the same (a bigger plan is a bigger monthly allowance, never a better rate), and one-time top-ups are the walk-up rate, which costs more per credit. Details on the pricing page.
Quests
Small onboarding tasks (stash a video, write your first note…) that pay out extra free credits as you learn the app. Find them under Account.
Sharing
Any note can get a public link. It always shows the latest version, and you can revoke it anytime.

Monitors, in five minutes

A monitor turns a queue into a standing watch: it checks YouTube on a schedule, pulls in videos it hasn't seen, and, if you ask, stashes them, writes notes, and emails you about it.

  1. Open a queue (Queue page in the web app, or the Queue tab in the extension).
  2. Add a source under Sources: a YouTube search, a channel (with autocomplete), or a playlist. Set per-check caps and an upload-date floor if you like; Shorts are always skipped.
  3. Flip the automations you want: Auto-stash fetches every new find; Auto-note writes a note per video or folds everything into one growing note; Email messages you when something new lands; Newsletter emails a written issue built from the queue's new notes: themed sections, headlines, and short summaries with links.
  4. Pick a cadence: one slider, from hourly to weekly. The Email and Newsletter rows keep their own schedule: instant, daily, or weekly, at the hour you choose.
  5. Impatient? Check now runs the whole pipeline immediately.

Good to know

Credits & billing

Balance and spend

Your balance sits in the profile menu (bottom-left in the web app) and in the extension's Account view, with a per-action spend history next to it. Confirming your email at signup grants your free starting credits, and the little quests under Account pay out more as you explore.

Subscriptions and top-ups

Monthly subscriptions are the cheaper hour: every plan prices video at the same rate per credit, so the tiers differ only in how many credits arrive each month. pick the one that matches what you watch on the pricing page. Top-ups are one-time packs at the walk-up rate, which costs more per credit; they stack with any plan and are meant for the occasional overflow. If you run out most months, moving up a plan is cheaper than topping up. Either way, credits never expire. Buying from Europe you pay in euros, elsewhere in dollars, and prices are shown before tax. Your country's VAT or sales tax is added at checkout. Payments are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. They run the checkout and send the invoice; your card never touches our servers.

Manage everything under Account → Billing in the web app: change plan (upgrades are prorated, downgrades start at renewal), cancel (you keep the plan and its credits until the period ends), resume, and open the payment portal for card changes and invoices. Refunds are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Google or password?

Both work. Use whichever matches the address you signed up with. One caveat: Google sign-in only accepts an account's primary address, so if you signed up with a Google Workspace alias or a non-Google mailbox, sign in with your password.

Forgot your password?

Use “Forgot password?” on any sign-in screen (or go straight to the reset page). We email you a reset link; the sender is KnowStash.

Product updates and offers

Occasional marketing email, opt-in per kind: product updates (new features and changes) and offers (discounts and promotions) are separate choices. Pick them when you sign up, or any time under Settings in the web app. Every one of these emails carries an unsubscribe link, and account email (confirmations, password resets, monitor emails you set up) arrives regardless.

Your data

Your stash is yours. The Account page can wipe all your content in one action (your sign-in and balance stay). Want the whole account gone? Email support@knowstash.ai from your account address and we'll erase it completely, usually within days, always within 30. Either way, we'd genuinely like to hear what went wrong first. The details live in our privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

The panel doesn't show up on YouTube
Check that the extension is enabled on chrome://extensions, then refresh the watch page. YouTube occasionally redraws its layout mid-session. the panel re-mounts itself, but a refresh is the quick fix.
I signed in but it says I don't have access
Most often the email isn't confirmed yet. Use the resend button on that screen and check your spam folder. If you've confirmed and still can't get in, write to support@knowstash.ai and we'll sort it.
The confirmation email never arrived
Check spam first, then use the resend option on the signup or sign-in screen (there's a short cooldown between sends). Still nothing after a few minutes? Email us and we'll confirm you by hand.
I paid, but my credits haven't appeared
Credits land a few seconds after Paddle confirms the payment. Refresh the Account page. If they're still missing after a couple of minutes, email us with the receipt and we'll fix it fast.
The Google sign-in popup won't open
A popup blocker is usually the culprit. We automatically fall back to a full-page redirect, but allowing popups for knowstash.ai makes sign-in smoother.
A note came out wrong
Ask again with a sharper instruction. Notes are versioned, so an update grows the same document and you can delete a bad version without losing the rest. If something was charged that clearly shouldn't have been, tell us and we'll make it right.
