Getting started

1. Create your account at knowstash.ai/signup: a name, an email, a password. (You'll also be able to sign in with Google afterwards.)
2. Confirm your email. We send a link; clicking it unlocks your account and puts your 3 free credits into the balance.
3. Make your first note in the web app. Paste a YouTube link on the Home page, type what the note should cover, and send. Leave the box empty to just stash the video for later.
4. Watching on YouTube? Add the Chrome companion and the same composer sits beside the video. Optional, and the same account.

The YouTube companion

KnowStash is a web app; the browser extension is its companion for YouTube. It does only the things that need the video, or the YouTube page, in front of you.

Beside the video

On every watch page a panel appears in the right column, with two tabs.

• Ask is a composer under the video. Type a question and the note streams in; send it empty to stash the video. The + menu holds your saved prompts, a collection to file the note in, and Direct (answer straight from the video without stashing it). The chevron beside send picks the model, and whether to read the video track as well as the audio. A Chapters list scopes a question to the parts you care about. Below the composer sit this video's notes, opening in a reader beside the player where timestamps seek the video.
• Queue is the same queues you have on the site. Pick one, add the video you're on, and send: an empty send stashes every video in it, and a typed one writes notes in whichever of the three ways the segmented control is set to, including the one note a queue keeps updating. The hamburger holds New, Rename, Clone, Clear and Delete, and links out to the queue's page and its monitor.

Everywhere else on YouTube

• Badges on thumbnails: a stash pill for videos already in your library, notes with a count for ones you've written about, and queued for ones waiting in a queue. Hover any thumbnail and a plus adds it to the queue you have selected.
• A queue button in YouTube's top bar, on the pages with no player: home, channels, search, subscriptions, playlists. It shows which queue the plus is filling, switches to another, and makes a new one.

Don't want it everywhere? Click the extension's toolbar icon and you get two switches: Video pages (the panel beside the player, and the badges) and Browsing pages (the top-bar button, and the badges on home, channels, search and feeds). Flipping one takes effect on open tabs straight away.

One account, both surfaces

A run you start in either place shows up in the other: kick a queue off on YouTube and the Queue page follows it live, or start one on the site and the panel picks it up when you get there. Queues run side by side, so nothing waits in line, and a run carries on if you close the tab.

Everything else lives at knowstash.ai, and the panel links there: the note reader has an “Open on knowstash.ai” button, a queue opens on the Queue page, and a monitored queue shows its status, with the hamburger's Monitor row going to the Monitor page. Your library and search, collections, sharing, versions, Markdown export, monitor set-up, newsletters, saved prompts, buying credits, spend, and settings are all on the site.

Get it from the Chrome Web Store. One click to add, and it works in Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Arc. Pin it to your toolbar (the puzzle-piece icon), sign in with the same account, then open any YouTube video. Our install page has the button and the first-run steps.

Core concepts

Monitors, in five minutes

A monitor turns a queue into a standing watch: it checks YouTube on a schedule, pulls in videos it hasn't seen, and, if you ask, stashes them, writes notes, and emails you about it. Everything happens on the Monitor page of the web app.

1. Open the Monitor page and press New to pick a queue. (From the Queue page, the ⋮ menu's Monitor this queue lands in the same place.)
2. Add a source under Sources: a YouTube search, a channel (with autocomplete), or a playlist. Set per-check caps and an upload-date floor if you like; Shorts are always skipped. A queue takes up to ten sources.
3. Flip the actions you want. Auto-stash fetches every new find. Auto-note writes a note per video, or folds everything into one growing note. Email sends a digest of what happened, or a written newsletter built from the queue's new notes.
4. Pick a cadence: one slider, from every 15 minutes to weekly. The Email row keeps its own schedule: instantly, daily, or weekly, at the hour you choose.
5. Impatient? Check now runs everything straight away.

Good to know

• Checks are picked up every 15 minutes, so a new monitor's first check happens within a quarter of an hour. After that each monitor keeps its own minute: an hourly one checks at the same minute every hour, a daily one at the same time every day. Check now if you can't wait. A check is never skipped.
• Nothing runs without a source. Auto-stash, Auto-note, and Email act on what the sources bring in, so a queue with no source waits until you add one.
• Each video is handled at most once per monitor: removing it from the queue won't make it come back.
• A check costs a small flat tick (0.01 credits) per queue check; whatever it finds is billed at the normal stash and note rates. Paused monitors are free.
• A newsletter issue bills a small flat price only when one is actually sent (see the meter); a quiet stretch with no new notes sends nothing and costs only the check.
• Monitors pause themselves after repeated failures (or if their queue is deleted) instead of burning credits quietly.
• The Activity log on the Monitor page keeps a running history: every check, find, note, and email, with links, and it names the videos a check skipped and why. It opens closed; click Activity to unfold it.
• A monitored queue is run from the Monitor page, so its Queue page (and the companion's Queue tab) drops the note composer and keeps a status line with a Stash button. Adding videos by hand is hidden wherever a source is filling the queue, because the way to add more is another source.

Newsletters

Turn a monitor's Email row to newsletter and, on the schedule you pick, KnowStash writes an issue from the notes the queue produced since the last one: an intro, a few sections, a headline and a short summary per note, and links back to the note and the video. Notes that don't fit appear as quick links. You can add a line about the style you want (“write it like a friend who just got back”).

• Every issue sent is kept on the Newsletters page in the web app, newest first, and opens in place.
• An issue can be shared with a link: the issue alone, or the issue and its notes so the links inside work for readers too. Stop sharing anytime; that never unshares the notes.
• Deleting an issue never touches the notes it was written from.
• A quiet stretch with no new notes sends nothing and bills nothing beyond the check.

Teams

The Team plan is one shared workspace for a small group, paid once a year on one invoice. One person buys it (100 to 500 credits in steps of 100, valid one year) and becomes the owner; they invite up to five colleagues by email. Everyone who accepts works in the owner's workspace: the same notes, videos, queues, monitors, collections, prompts and balance of credits. Nothing is copied or merged, and a video is never billed twice inside a team.

1. Buy the Team plan on the pricing page or under Account → Team. Pick 100, 200, 300, 400 or 500 credits; the team opens as soon as the payment lands. Businesses in the EU enter their VAT ID at checkout and pay the net price.
2. Invite people from Account → Team: an email address and an optional note. The invitation email carries a join link valid seven days; the same link sits behind Copy link if the email doesn't arrive.
3. They accept with the invited address, signing in or creating an account on the join page. A new account is activated by joining; no confirmation email needed.
4. Set the recipients for digests and newsletters: a default list for the team under Account → Team, and a per-monitor list on the Monitor page's Email row. Otherwise they go to the owner.

Good to know

• Members can't buy or change billing, invite or remove people, or disband the team. Their sign-in, display preferences and email choices stay their own.
• Seats count members plus pending invitations; the owner isn't a seat. A person can be in one team at a time, as owner or member.
• Spend history shows who triggered each charge, and can be read per person.
• Thirty days before the year ends, the owner gets a reminder. Nothing renews on its own. When the package lapses, members see a notice until the owner renews or removes them; the owner keeps working. Buying the package again extends it by a year from its current end.
• Leaving or being removed gives a member their own, empty workspace back. Disbanding does the same for everyone; the workspace and the remaining credits stay with the owner.

Credits & billing

Balance and spend

Your balance sits in the profile menu (bottom-left in the web app) and in the companion's Account view, with a per-action spend history on the Account page. One credit is one hour of video, and the balance is always in credits. Confirming your email at signup puts 3 free credits in the balance, valid one month.

Buying credits

You pay as you go. Buy a pack of 10, 20 or 50 credits on the pricing page or under Account in the web app (want 30? buy 20 and 10). Every pack costs the same per credit, is paid once, and is valid 3 months; a Team plan's credits are valid a year. There is no subscription and nothing renews: when the balance drops below 5 credits the Account page says so, with a button to buy more, and a card is never charged without you clicking buy. Until 31 December 2026 a credit costs $1 / €1: the 10-credit pack is $10 / €10, its launch price, and the 20 and 50 packs come with 50% more credits. The launch is a promotion and it ends on that date; the sticker is $1.50 / €1.50 a credit. Spending always uses the credits that expire soonest, and the Account page lists every batch with its date. Buying from Europe you pay in euros, elsewhere in dollars, and prices are shown before tax. Your country's VAT or sales tax is added at checkout, and the total is shown before you pay. Payments are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. They run the checkout and send the invoice; your card never touches our servers.

The Account page in the web app is where you buy credits, read your spend, and open the payment portal for invoices and receipts. If you are still on one of the earlier monthly plans, it keeps running until you cancel it there. The companion shows your balance and links here for the rest. Refunds are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee on the credits you have not spent.

Google or password?

Both work, in the web app and in the companion. Use whichever matches the address you signed up with. One caveat: Google sign-in only accepts an account's primary address, so if you signed up with a Google Workspace alias or a non-Google mailbox, sign in with your password.

Forgot your password?

Use “Forgot password?” on any sign-in screen (or go straight to the reset page). We email you a reset link; the sender is KnowStash.

Product updates and offers

Occasional marketing email, opt-in per kind: product updates (new features and changes) and offers (discounts and promotions) are separate choices. Pick them when you sign up, or any time under Settings in the web app. Every one of these emails carries an unsubscribe link, and account email (confirmations, password resets, monitor emails you set up) arrives regardless.

Your data

Your stash is yours. The Account page can wipe all your content in one action (your sign-in and balance stay). Want the whole account gone? Email support@knowstash.ai from your account address and we'll erase it completely, usually within days, always within 30. Either way, we'd like to hear what went wrong first. The details live in our privacy policy.
